With full-time, 3-year distance education and advanced standing options, the School offers a variety of ways for you to obtain your MSW degree. Concentration options include direct practice, management and community practice and a self-directed concentration.

Doctoral Program

Building on our nationally recognized master's program in social work,the Ph.D. program prepares graduates to be leaders in their profession by conducting research on innovative social interventions and sharing their work through writing and teaching.

Consistent with the requirements for the Council on Social Work Education, the Graduate Social Work Program's mission is to prepare students for advanced generalist practice with diverse populations in urban and rural areas of North Carolina and beyond.

Two MSW Programs Offered

  • traditional program - Full time two year program
  • Advanced Standing program - 39 credit hours and allows the Department of Social Work to mainstream BSW graduates into the second year of the MSW curriculum, following seven hours of "bridge courses" taken in the summer. Students enter directly into the advanced year of the curriculum and graduate in one full academic year.
